Education Program Children

Education Program Children

We support South African children in their education and self realization.

Why an educational programm?

In March 2015 the South African government closed the Tshedimosong School which was located on Tlholego ground. The public school Moedwil, about 50 km away, would have been the responsible institution for the 150 children from the Tshedimosong School. Due to the numerous closures of schools in the surrounding area, this boarding school has already been at its capacity limit for years and is no longer able to accommodate all students.

Our long-term goal is to provide a good education and thus to secure an adequate livelihood for the children in the catchment area of the Tshedimosong School.

We took the first step. Thanks to your help we have been able to take over the school fees of the Tlholego children for the nearby Christian Harmony School. We want to continue our work and give more children the opportunity for education.

Why Tlholego?

When Leonie volunteered in Tlholego in 2012, the Tshedimosong school was still running. About 150 children attended the school. Leonie helped the children from Tlholego with the homework and supervised them in the afternoon. She developed a concept in which the children get individual support and learn new things in a fun and playful way. Since the concept attracted much interest from the children and the parents, it quickly became a part of the daily routine. Through the regular interaction with the volunteers the English of the children has improved quickly, and the self-confidence of the children has grown. After the Tshedimosong School had been closed, the children had no chance to attend a school. The daily afternoon program became a day job, which still could not replace a quality education. The parents from Tlholego were unable to provide their children with the education they needed to make full use of their potential and to meet the demands they already had in themselves.

Since spring 2015 the children have been visiting the nearby private Christian Harmony School. We can happily report that they enjoy the new school. From the beginning they have had good marks and have made many friendships with classmates.
